Jessica Huras is a Canadian filmmaker and actor based in Toronto. Her work explores gender, identity and intimacy through broader cultural narratives. She holds an MFA in Screenwriting from York University, where she was nominated for the Governor General’s Gold Medal.
Her short films Bing! Bang! Bi! (2020) and Between Realities Along the Edge of Time (2021) have screened internationally at festivals including Montreal’s Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Inside Out and Frameline. Her experimental shorts Death by Landscape (2023), Picture This (2024) and Manitoulin, with love (2024) reflect her passion for working with celluloid. Jessica’s co-written feature The Way Out was selected for the 2022 MUBI/Wscripted Cannes Screenplay List.
Jessica is currently directing her debut feature film, Tides, produced by Nice Picture and Shut Up & Colour Pictures and supported by Telefilm Canada. As an actor, she has appeared in numerous television series and was Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the independent theatre company Heart in Hand. Her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, SSHRC, Inside Out’s RE Fund and broadcast on CBC.
